Duty

Let us have faith that right makes might, and in that faith, let us, to the end, dare to do our duty as we understand it.
~Abraham Lincoln.

Memorial Day gives us time to pause and remember, but also advocate for the individuals and families who have dedicated their lives to protecting ours. I have had only a handful of extended family members and friends who have ever served in the military in any capacity, so I don't have any direct experience with all the implications and consequences of serving in that capacity. I'm grateful for their service in some of the worst situations in the world. In most cases, when interviewed about why they serve, many mention that it is their "duty" and feel the call to serve. I have a good friend who served three tours of 'Nam and would be the first person to say that war is hell and would never send anyone into a war if it was his decision.

I'm not a regular watcher, but last night 60 Minutes had several segments on our troops in action. In a perfectly safe world, we wouldn't need a military, but until that happens, I'm glad these men and women are on our side to preserve our freedom.
Thank you! ATD
